CMR built an exhibit for the Flint Hills Discovery Center located in Manhattan,
Kansas. It depicts the area during the 1880's and feature a small prairie town,
ranch scene and operating period ATSF (Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe) trains.
The scene is not specific to one town but elements were taken from actual places and scenes
as depicted in period illustrations, sanborn insurance maps and photographs.
The photo in the banner above is from our exhibit model. It has been manipulated to look like an old
black and white photo, typical of photos that we worked from to create the scenes on the exhibit.
Finished exhibit photos are at the top of this page, and in the left hand column. These are
followed by chronological construction photos.
You can "click" on the photos to open a larger version for a more detailed view. In addition
many of the photos include a "mouse over" view of the historic photo from which the model was
built.
